My top 5 Japanese apps I use all the time!

I love technology. There are so many cool things we can do with it. Just recently out and about when I heard a song I liked. I did not know the name of the song and I wanted to add it to my playlist. Many people would not bother to find out, but all I had to do was say “He Siri, この曲の名前は何ですか。” Siri quickly began listening and then not only told me the song but then began playing it for me on Apple Music. I didn’t have to do anything! How cool is technology!

There is a catch though… sometimes we like technology so much that we get sucked in and waste a lot of time doing nothing. Please think of your phone as a tool. A tool is just that, something you carry around and use when needed. Most tools you would not spend all day looking at.

I and not going to tell you how to use your phone, that is your choice, but try to use the below apps as tools.

My top 5 apps for Japanese study

My number one Japanese app! - iPad

1- REIKOKU - this is a Japanese 国語辞典 (A Japanese children’s dictionary) It has been made for children so it is super simple but also has a lot of words. It is a Japanese dictionary, but all the explanations are in simple Japanese. This is one of the best apps you can use. This way you are learning the word and its meaning all in Japan.

Number one dictionary - iPhone, iPad

2- Imiwa? - I love this dictionary. I use it so much. It is easy to use, simple and has pretty much any word you can think of. It has example sentences and also shows you the different Bushu of the characters. You can then tap on them and learn them as well.

3- Apple Music - Yes, this may sound like a funny one to add in but I use it a lot. Do you want to train your ears? Music is a great way. Apple Music has a lot of Japanese music. In fact, anything I want it generally has. I can train my ears each time I listen. The other great thing is, when people sing they usually sing fast, this helps you learn to listen at a faster speed!

4- Youtube - This is a simple one but sooo effective. I love to learn, and Youtube has so many good videos that help you do just that. Yes, there is a lot of rubbish on YouTube, but there are also a lot of great videos. I like 日本語の森 (Nihonngo no mori) for gramma. They go through a lot of different JLPT things.

5- 漢字忍者 (Kanji Ninja) - This is a fun app for learning Kanji. It starts with grade one Kanji taught in schools and as it is all about you learning to write kanji. This is an app made for Japanese children. There is no English which is also a great thing! It forces you to use the Japanese you know.

There are so many more apps that I love but this is my top 5 that I use the most. What are your favourite apps? Comment below so we can share more cool apps with others!
