One decision changed my life!

It was 1997, I just started junior high school and I was about to make a decision that would change my future. It was my fist day at school. All first years had to choose a language to learn. I walked down dingy corridors to the language department at the old Kingston high school.

I still remember the the atmosphere in the language department, I first arrived at the Spanish room. It had different cultural posters and things up in the room, but it just looked like more English study. I left that room and next on the right was the Japanese room. It was well deprecated and had different cultural things up around the room. It had some characters displayed around and something about the room was enticing.

I walked down towards the exit door. Just before the exit door was the German room. It was almost nothing hanging up and looked very boring and un-enticing. I turned back around and walked to the Japanese room. Something about that room look like fun. The Japanese Kanji on the wall looked cool and I thought ‘I want to learn Japanese’.

That single small decision changed my life. I never knew then but that one small decision to start learning Japanese changed everything. It changed what I thought, where I lived and still influences my goals today.

You never know where the choices you make will take you. Never let the negative voice stop you making a decision that deep down you really want to do.

We each have two little voices in out head. One positive and ready to help whenever we need it. The other is always there to tell us we are not good enough, smart enough and compared to others we have nothing to offer. Don’t listen to it!

The voice you listen to gets stronger. The one you feed grows.

Think about a time when you wish let your negative voice stop you from doing something. What do you wish you could have done differently? Grab a notebook and write down your thoughts. If you could relive the same situation what would you do differently. Then the next time you face a similar situation you will be better able to react to your thoughts!
